Free Camping Airlie Beach

Some of the most popular islands in the Whitsundays include Whitehaven Beach, Hamilton Island, and Daydream Island. Visitors can embark on various water-based activities, including sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and exploring the famous Whitehaven Beach, known for its pristine silica sands.

Is there Free Camping in Airlie Beach?

There are no official free camping areas anywhere near Airlie Beach. However, there are a few unofficial spots that you may be able to camp at for free. These spots are not always guaranteed to be available, and they may not be suitable for all campers. 

Fortunately, there are numerous low-cost camping spots scattered all around, providing opportunities for hiking, swimming, and enjoying the natural beauty of the region. To ensure you still get to enjoy the beauty of Airlie Beach, here are some free and low-cost camping sites you can use as base for exploring the area.

RV Park Proserpine

RV Park Proserpine

Proserpine RV Park is a dog-friendly park; however, dogs must be always leashed. The park provides drinking water and waste bins for convenience. You can expect Telstra reception, other mobile network receptions, and good TV reception. There is a dump point available for waste disposal. 

Please note that the park has seasonal closures, and the maximum stay limit is 48 hours. Only fully self-contained vehicles are permitted, and tents are not allowed. The park is accessible for big rigs, motorhomes, and caravans. It’s important to note that generators are not allowed, and council rangers regularly enforce this rule and issue fines accordingly.

Deadman Creek Gravel Pit

Deadman Creek Gravel Pit

Deadman Creek Gravel Pit offers a spacious and flat camping area with freshly mowed grass. You’ll find friendly cows and ducks in the nearby paddock, adding to the scenic surroundings. Dogs are allowed in the camp. The site is conveniently located close to the road, with a banana stand at the entrance. 

You can expect Telstra reception,  other mobile receptions, and good TV reception. It’s important to note that only self-contained vehicles are allowed in the campground. The site is accessible for motorhomes, caravans, big rigs, and camper trailers, providing options for various types of travellers.

Sandy Bay offers a small and secluded beach, surrounded by mangroves and backed by a lush rainforest. To camp at this location, camping permits are required. Access to the bay is limited to shallow draft boats during mid to high tides. 

The camping area is open and unpowered, with clearly defined sites. Each site can accommodate a maximum of six people. Toilet facilities are available for campers’ convenience. Generators and pets are not permitted in the camping area. Visitors can enjoy walking tracks starting from the camp, providing an opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the surrounding area.

The campsite provides toilets for visitors’ convenience. Enjoy the breath-taking views of the ocean from the campsite and keep an eye out for wildlife in the surrounding area. 

There are shaded areas, two tables, and a designated shaded area for relaxation. Explore the walking tracks available for nature walks and exploration. It’s important to be cautious as there is a possibility of crocodile habitat in the area. Telstra reception is available, ensuring communication during your stay. Tents are allowed at the campsite, providing an opportunity for a traditional camping experience.

Additional amenities include a camp kitchen, laundry facilities, and a swimming area. Fishing enthusiasts will appreciate the nearby boat ramp. Please be aware that crocodiles may be present in the area. Stay connected with Telstra reception and enjoy good TV reception. WiFi is available for your convenience. Fuel and gas are also available on-site. Accommodation options include cabins and on-site accommodation for a comfortable stay. The park offers a dump spot for waste disposal. Repulse Creek Campground is a spacious and well-maintained camping area. Please note that a booking is required to secure your spot. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed at this campground. The campground offers toilet facilities for your convenience. You’ll have access to both drinking water and non-drinking water sources. 

Keep an eye out for the local wildlife that inhabits the area. There are tables available for picnics and meals. Enjoy exploring the walking and cycling tracks that wind through the campground. Tents are allowed, providing a great option for those seeking a traditional camping experience.

The campground is situated on a secluded beachfront property, offering stunning views of the Coral Sea. Campers have access to a seasonal creek and the nearby beach. Dogs are welcome at the campground but must always be kept on a leash. Generators are also allowed. 

Tables are available for picnics and meals. There are also walking tracks, cycling tracks, and 4WD tracks to explore. Open fire pits are provided. Fishing enthusiasts can make use of the nearby boat ramp to access the water. Tents are allowed at Conway Creek Camping, and the site is accessible to motorbikes, caravans, and motorhomes. Please note that the campground is currently closed for refurbishments.
