Although most camping sites in Coffs Harbour require a fee, it is possible to find free camping areas nearby. Coffs Harbour has a number of great beaches and national parks, some of which offer free camping. There are also some public lands around the Coffs Harbour area where camping is allowed.

Wedding Bell Creek Road

Wedding Bell Creek Road is a tiny campsite on Bark Hut Creek Road, Bucca, New South Wales. Although 2WD vehicles can get to the camp, it’s not suitable for low ground clearance vehicles, and 4WD vehicles are needed during rainy weather. It offers enough space for about 3-4 sites, and you’ll need to be self-sufficient. Dogs and ground tent camping are allowed. There is lots of shade and a shared fireplace centrally located between the sites. While here, you can enjoy the stunning landscape, watch birds, hike, or cycle on the trails.

Mobong Creek is a free campground in the Wild Cattle Creek State Forest. It offers a drop toilet, a fire pit, a small waterfall, and a swimming hole where you can go to cool off. It is dog-friendly, and camping in tents is allowed. 2WD low clearance vehicles can easily access the campgrounds that are in a nice flat grassy area.

Macksville Lions Park

Macksville Lions Park

Macksville Lions Park is the perfect destination for overnight camping in Coffs Harbour. Situated in a peaceful setting overlooking the water, this park offers visitors stunning views and plenty of options for a great outdoor adventure.

It permits overnight stays for fully self-contained vehicles. Located on Ferry Street, Lions Parks is a fairly small caravan park offering just three parking spaces. The area has signposts that give directions to the park and terms of use. Facilities include toilets, picnic tables, garbage bins, a playground, mobile reception, and a boat ramp. While here, you can go fishing.

Council Rangers regularly patrol the park, and penalties are enforced for non-compliance with the conditions of use. This is a wheelchair and pet-friendly area. Pets must remain restrained at all times, and dogs are prohibited from the public reserve. Camper trailers, camping tents, annexes, and anything similar are not permitted to be erected. It can be accessed by RVs, motorhomes, and caravans.

Macksville Overnight

Macksville Overnight

Macksville Overnight is an overnight self-contained campervan parking area at the western end of River Street, Macksville, New South Wales. It offers four small spaces.

Vehicles are only permitted to stay in the Macksville Overnight parking area for a maximum of 24 hours only. Parking is for campervans only, and cars are not allowed to park here. Vehicles must be parked within marked spaces, and vehicles over 6m are prohibited. Penalties apply for non-compliance with these rules.

A one-hour parking restriction applies from 8.30 am-6 pm Monday to Friday and 8.30 am to 12.30 pm on Saturdays. You are required to keep noise to a minimum and restrict the use of radios. Please note that compressors and generators are prohibited. You’ll also be required to take your rubbish when you leave. While pets are permitted, you have to keep them restrained at all times. 

Camping in tents and caravans is not permitted. While here, you can use the two publicly accessible dump points within the Nambucca Shire. One of these dump points is located at the Nambucca Tourist Information Centre, which is located on the corner of Giinagay Way and Riverside Drive. The other dump point is at the Nambucca Highway Service Centre, located at the Nambucca Heads interchange off the Pacific Highway. Amenities include toilets, non-drinking water, tables, rubbing bins, dump points, and boat ramps. You can go fishing while here.

Ferry Street Overnight Campervan Parking

Ferry Street Overnight Campervan Parking

The Ferry Street Overnight Campervan Parking is an overnight parking area for campervans only. Vehicles over 6.6 meters are prohibited, and you are required to pack within the marked spaces.

All vehicles are only permitted to stay in the parking area for a maximum of 24 hours, and no cars are allowed to park in these bays. Please keep noise to a minimum by restricting the use of radios. Compressors and generators should not be used between 7 pm and 7 am. 

You’ll also have to take your rubbish with you when you leave. Pets are permitted but must be restrained. You are required to comply with all on-site signage. Rangers regularly patrol the area, and fines will be issued for non-compliance.

Coffs Leagues Club is centrally located between Coffs Harbour and Sawtell on 65-Stadium Drive, Coffs Harbour, New South Wales. It is the perfect spot for a relaxing getaway, and you are minutes away from the shopping center. Advance bookings are essential; the maximum you can stay is seven days.

Camping is available for caravans, motorhomes, camper trailers, buses, and tents and offers both powered and unpowered sites. Facilities include toilets, showers, bins, drinking water, mobile reception, and power hookups. Pets are permitted in this wheelchair-friendly campground. Coffs Harbour Camping & 4WD

Coffs Harbour Camping & 4WD is located at 1119 Bucca Rd, Bucca, New South Wales. It sits on a 230-acre estate just 15 minutes north of Coffs Harbour and a short eight-minute drive from Moonee Beach, the Moonee Market shopping center, and the Moonee Beach Tavern. This campground is an ideal base camp to explore the beautiful Coffs Coast, especially Moonee Beach, which was voted the third-best beach in Australia.

While here, you can hand feed the farm animals, including the free-range poultry, or enjoy hours of bush walking, cycling, hitting the 4WD tracks or go for a dip in the swimming holes. You can also enjoy a picnic by the dam overlooking the grazing horses.

The campground is no longer a dog-friendly site, so pets are not permitted. It can be accessed by any vehicle, including caravans, RVs, motorbikes, camper trailers, buses, and big rigs. 2WD should have no problem accessing the site. There is plenty of space and privacy at the Coffs Harbour Camping.

4WD vehicles and motorbikes are not to be ridden on the property; access only to the Lower Bucca State Forest. To ride in the forest, motorbikes need to be registered. 4WD users who wish to stay at the dam paddock must be fully self-sufficient.

Firewood is available to be purchased at the camping site. Amenities include toilets, drinking and non-drinking water, walking trails, and 4WD tracks. Tent camping and generators are permitted.

Bellingen Showground is a budget campground on Hammond St, Bellingen, New South Wales. It is located just 500m from the main Street but gives you a laid-back, rural vibe. A convenience store across the road offers hot/cold food and alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages.

It offers toilets, showers, drinking water, a dump point, and power hookups. It is a wheelchair and dog-friendly site. RVs, camper trailers, caravans, buses, and big rigs, can access Bellingen Showground. Camping in tents is allowed.

Every Saturday, you can look forward to the weekly Saturday morning Growers Market at the Showgrounds from 7:30-11:30 am. Listen to local musicians as you shop for fresh farm produce, or enjoy a delicious breakfast made from fresh local fruit, vegetables, and micro greens. Try out the locally produced traditional sourdough bread, seafood, meats, eggs, and dairy.
